GOALS:
- Get my MBA
- Become a CPA
- Create my own accounting firm
My goals are the steps I want to take to achieving my vision, which is to be my own boss and have my own accounting firm. Owning my own accounting firm would be a very big deal for me because it is a very risky proposition but also a very gratifying one. Yes, I could have said my vision was just to get a good job in a fortune 500 company and all that good stuff, but I don't think that life is for me. Don't get me wrong I know I would have to work at a firm before I can ever open up my own, but ultimately i would love to have my name as the company on the business card. The risk is that I may not succeed because the truth of the matter is not all business ventures are successful, but if I work hard I know I would have gave it my all.
The immediate and near term action that I can commit to doing while I'm in college is getting an internship. It is never to early to start learning about my career and the faster I start working in the field I wanna be in the more advantage I gain over the rest of the people. Working an internship will also give me inside knowledge that is not written and taught in textbooks, the experience I will gain during working will be invaluable to my future. I will also be able to talk to people who have already started their own firm or also aspire to open their own firm and which will help me gain insight. This is just the beginning!

Hey~
You have very accurate goal steps. You are probably a good managed person. Yours are possible to achieve someday. If you have a lot of experiences in your field, you will run your firm easily because you will know how to do whatever comes out to you. Someone said that you have an experience better than you read 100 books. And I think that beginning is also important for life because when I start doing one step, it is very difficult, but it is easily doing second step. I felt that you are doing well. Wish you the best in everything
There's a saying that goes, "If there's a will, there's a way." I encourage you to pursue your vision. Your vision of opening up your own accounting firm might seem far-fetched right now, but as you take minor steps towards reaching that dream such as obtaining an internship and getting your MBA, it might seem more realistic. I believe anything is accomplishable if you put your mind and heart into it. For instance, Obama did not become president overnight. He campaigned all over the United States gaining the trust of the American people one by one. A year ago, if someone would have said we would have a black president today, I would have told them they were crazy. Anyway, my point is is that as long as you believe in your dream and continue working hard towards that goal, one day your name will be the company name just like you envisioned it.
hi, thanks alot for the congrats on the earlier post.
I completely support your vision of getting an internship. The sooner you get know your field the better you will be at planning out the rest of your life. Baruch is very well known for acct and fin so I’m sure if you go to the career center they will have something prestigious for you within a few weeks.
I have the same vision as you do, to be my own boss. The good thing about you is that you know what king of Business you want to do, but I don't know yet what kind of business I want to do. If you keep trying you will get there; keep in mind that more people (businesses) succeed than failure.
We share a common goal that I forgot to mention in my blog which is to ultimately have our own business. In your chase, a accounting firm. Truthfully, the thought of crunching numbers makes me sick.. But Im not knocking your hustle! I respect people that can do things I cant do.. like math... As far as your goals as a whole, its very tangible so keep your head up!
Hey,
No matter what your goals or "vision", I think everyone should go after the goals that are the most riskiest and most rewarding. Think big or go home! That is why I think your goal of owning your own firm is something you should always believe in and hopefully pursue one day when the timing is right. I think too often, people try to go after the goals that are easily attainable and can be accomplished with minimum effort. The fact that you recognize the risk of failure in doing something that substantial, yet still having the determination and will to get it done one day, is something commendable. I also think you equally balanced out your goal with something more realistic in the near time-getting an internship. I share your vision on that, because it is something that I need to also accomplish next semester. Good luck!
Hii,I think you are right about getting experience that in order to learn something outside of the books, you have to have an intersnhip as a short term goal. There is a significnat difference when people say "I will in the future..." compare to "I might in the future...". When people say "I will in the future..", that means they have a dream, along with a vision and confident to fulfill their dream. Those people have a higher chance of succeeding than the others. Dreams can be ambigous and wild, however they can be fulfilled if you plan it carefully. You have a dream, now you need to vision it. Once you do that, you will automatically start planning it because once you know what you want it, planning becomes easier.
Also to answer your question, no I didn't design that picture but I have done alot of cool similar works. Baruch actually offers an intro to graphic deisgn class (art2050). If you ever need an elective and want to take something fun that doesnt involve reading andboring lectures I recomend it, its very easy, and you learn alot.
